#Readathon Survey Update - How do your reading habits compare?

Posted by Unknown at 2:33 PM 0 comments

These are PRELIMINARY results from the Hour 10 Dewey’s Readathon Mini Challenge. I will post more indepth results after I’ve had a chance to collect and process more data…be sure to check back!

If you haven’t already, take the survey now!

Surveys Completed
110 readathon participants completed the survey (there were 442 people registered for the readathon so that is a 24% response rate); 27 left incomplete surveys. I’m pretty confident that this is because of some of the data that I requested (number of books by year and percentage of book format). John and I discussed this while I was creating the survey but I figured most Readathon participates were pretty serious book readers and might just know this information.

Respondent Gender
97% of respondents were women. This was no surprise to me.

April 2012 #Readathon Wrap-Up

Great Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon! Thanks to everyone behind the scenes who makes it possible. I will be back in the Fall…hope others will join me!

Reading Results: By clearing my calendar, I had a pretty good readathon!

Reading for Charity: I committed to donating $25 per book read. That means that both Room to Read and Project Read will be receiving $125 each. However, I had also offered to donate $0.10 per book read for anyone who registered with me (there were 442 people signed up). Unfortunately, only Shaunesay registered;  so, I’ve decided to donate an additional $40 ($10 per book she finished). I’m disappointed more people didn’t signup. So that is a total of $330 donated to these two great organizations: Room to Read and Project Read.

My First Mini Challenge: I hosted my first mini challenge this year. It was a survey on reading habits particularly targeted to people who read ebooks. 110 participates completed the survey while 27 gave up. I will post a summary of the results soon with a more detailed look later. Julie Merilatt of julzreads.wordpress.com was the winner of the $25 amazon gift card for completing the survey. The survey is still active if you want to participate – you just won’t be eligible for the gift card. I actually look forward to doing another one next year.

What I Read: Notice I had to go to shorter, simpler books the later it got

End of Readathon meme:

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
    Hour 22…it was 4:30am
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
While I enjoyed the books I read, I’m not sure how much  any of them would appeal to others.
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Even after 3 years, I struggle with reading, blogging, reading blogs, and participating in challenges. There is a lot going on!
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
  5. How many books did you read?
5 books completed; 1349 pages read
  6. What were the names of the books you read?
    See above
  7. Which book did you enjoy most?
Not sure I can pick…they all offered different things.
  8. Which did you enjoy least?
I enjoyed them all..but if I started to read a sample book and couldn’t get into it I set it aside because I knew I needed books that would keep me going.
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
    I wasn’t a cheerleader.
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
    I plan on participating again!

Title: Honorable Intentions

Author: Catherine Mann

Start: 03:00

End:08:00

Pages: 192

Description:

Major Hank Renshaw knows almost everything there is to know about Gabrielle Ballard. Except for what it's like to touch her. Because Gabrielle is his best friend's fiancĂ©e. Or she was. Until his buddy died in battle—right after making Hank promise to find her…...
So now Hank's in New Orleans. In Gabrielle's apartment. Watching her nurse her infant son. It's not honor that draws him to her. It's not duty that makes him stay. It's need he's feeling, plain and simple—the desire to take the woman he's always wanted and finally make her his own.

Comments: A nice light enjoyable read…that kept me entertained… And I admit that I might have napped a little…
