Subject: New BookCrossing journal entry for The Partner!

Someone has made a new journal entry on one of your books at

BookCrossing.com! We've displayed the entry below, but you can read all the

entries at http://bookcrossing.com/journal/4994932 anytime.

Book Title: The Partner

Author:     John Grisham

__________________________________________________________________________

Friday, April 27, 2007

There was a group of book people in the hotel while we were here for a

visit.  I somehow don't think they were librarians.  I picked this up to

read when I found it by the elevator.  The book I brought was really crummy

and Grisham is pretty reliable.  I left it in the hotel when we left to go

back to Nova Scotia.

It's been a $Productive trip

Posted by noumena12 at 8:03 AM 0 comments

So, I flew to the BC Convention in Charleston using my frequent flyer points. I’ve now been bumped both ways earning me two (2) free tickets!! Not only was the trip free, I made money!!! Now, I just need to decide where I want to go in the next year…maybe Las Vegas?! Of course, I may not want to fly anywhere! For those who are tracking my travels, I’ll be in DC later this week and NYC/NJ next week.

Reverse Scavenger 16: Somewhere Especially Charleston

Posted by noumena12 at 9:00 AM 0 comments
Charleston Cooks is very Charlestonian! And since Charlston's nickname is the Holy City, it seemed appropriate to release Enter the Saint by Leslie Charteris.

I don't have a picture of the book...but here is a picture of the release location

Reverse Scavenger 15: Somewhere Mysterious

Posted by noumena12 at 8:54 AM 0 comments
Why not leave a mystery, The Arraignment by Steve Martini, at The Tavern with its mysterious history and flags (skelton and hearts??? Whassup with that?).

Reverse Scavenger 14: Somewhere Antebellum

Posted by noumena12 at 8:43 AM 0 comments
Daughters of the Confederacy Museum seem like a great place to leave John Jake's Love and War. This was another book that we watched walk away!! :bananacheer:

Can you spot the book in this photo??

Here's the close up!

Reverse Scavenger 12: Somewhere Wet

Posted by noumena12 at 8:32 AM 0 comments
The fountain in Waterfront Park is very fun and on Saturday afternoon there were lots of people playing in it. TITurtle1 was very discrete as he left Pelican Brief (hey, pelicans live near water!) by John Grisham and a book from CheriePie by the fountain. This was another book that we got to watch walk away while we were still in the area.

Here is Turtle posing in front of the fountain. Notice the bag on the ground behind him hiding the books he is going to leave. Very discreet.

Look, someone left some books by the water fountain!

Reverse Scavenger 11: Somewhere Pink

Posted by noumena12 at 8:26 AM 0 comments
Wow!! What a surprise I had a book with pink on the cover!! Charming Jo by Laura Drewry was left by those beautiful pink flowers in Waterfront Park. Wave hi to TITurtle1 and CheriePie!!

Reverse Scavenger 10: Somewhere Cold

Posted by noumena12 at 8:15 AM 0 comments
It's mid-70's here in Charleston! It's not cold! But we Cherie, Turtle, Sci and I were on a mission to find some nice cold ice cream. By the time we got there, it was closed but Cherie and I left our books anyway. Cold Medina by Gary Hardwick is on the bench outside Maggie Moo's, 159 Church Street.

Reverse Scavenger 9: Somewhere Near a Flag

Posted by noumena12 at 8:10 AM 0 comments
The Old Exchange at the corner of East Bay and Broad Streets not only has a dungeon but several flags. America is My Neigborhood by Willard Scott was left by the dungeon window.

[will add picture when I get it from CheriePie's camera]

According to EllyMae58, someone picked this book up and they were discussing it in the museum.

Reverse Scavenger 8: With Flowers

Posted by noumena12 at 7:57 AM 0 comments
There is a beautiful flower garden in Waterfront Park and Between Friends by Kathleen Rowntree has flowers on the cover. Before we left the area, we actually saw someone reading one of the books left by the flowers.

Sonora provide some great suggestions about how to get to the UK cheaply…be sure to check these sites out! Some of these sites will talk in airport codes so you will want to be sure to know your airport code!

Gatwick: LGW

Heathrow: LHR

Paris - Charles de Gaulle: CDG

Paris – Orly: ORY

Christchurch, New Zealand: ADL

Reverse Scavenger 7: Somewhere by a cannon

Cannon's are big in Charleston...just ask Hoserlauren! War & Rememberance by Herman Wouk is at the second cannon at the corner to East Bay and S. Bay Streets. Cherie left Wild Fire by Nelson DeVille as well.

2009 Bookcrossing Convention Location

Christchurch, New Zealand!!!! They were the only location to put in a Convention request for 2009! Works for me!! I always wanted to go to New Zealand!!

Reverse Scavenger 7: Somewhere Modern

Posted by noumena12 at 7:25 AM 0 comments
Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares. What location is more modern than an ATM!! This book is at the ATM in the Atlantic Bank & Trust at 152 East Bay Street.

Reverse Scavenger 6: Somewhere Exotic

Posted by noumena12 at 7:15 AM 0 comments
There are so many exotic places to go on vacation and the French Quarter section of Charleston is pretty exotic too! Be sure to take Bijoux by Meredith Rich with you!

You can pick it up at the Travel Service on Meeting Street near Hassell.

More Questions...okay...Ri is the only one asking any

Posted by noumena12 at 7:10 AM 0 comments

We are having some of that discussion now! Think having BookCrossing incorporating BookRelay.com, Cliff’s Wishlist, LiveJournal, cataloging (librarything, BookLibrary, ) etc. Also, they are looking at partnerships: Panera Bread, Target, Barnes and Noble, etc. I really want Cherie to talk to RBSG about BookRelay!

They have a fairly big feature list: I believe Redsoxbookguy will be posting the feature list and soliciting feedback.

Reverse Scavenger Hunt 5: Somewhere by wrought iron or gated

Posted by noumena12 at 6:51 AM 1 comments
One of the things that I found I love about Charleston is the old cemetaries. And the St. Philip's West Cemetary has a cool wrought iron fence and gate. I didn't have a book that fit the theme so, with AceofHeart's help, I 'caught' one from the Bookcrossing Convention Book Buffet table: Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Reverse Scavenger 4: Somewhere with a person's name associated with it

Posted by noumena12 at 6:44 AM 0 comments
The book I picked is a person's name J. Eden by Kit Reed. And since I was at St. Philip's Church...St. Philip was a person!

Reverse Scavenger 3: A Themed Release

Posted by noumena12 at 6:36 AM 0 comments
By this time I didn't have a lot of books to select from. But Downtown Charleston definitely has small town feel. And when I think of small town...I think of talk and gossip because everyone knows everyone else's business. Hence, my selection of Talk of the Town by Suzanne MacPherson. So this book got left in a newsbox.

Reverse Scavenger 2: Somewhere Representative of Charleston's

Posted by noumena12 at 6:10 AM 0 comments
nickname of the Holy City. I "caught" a book from the Bookcrossing Convention Book Buffet table: Here's the Church, Here's the Steeple. Where else would you release a 'Holy' book...a church...in this case, St. Phillip's Church. St. Phillip is either the patron saint of Rome or of Pastry Chefs. It was 1am last night when I was trying to figure it out.

Reverse Scavenger 1: Somewhere Literary

Posted by noumena12 at 5:58 AM 0 comments
My "literary" book was Selected Works of DH Lawrence. I found the most appropriate "literary" place was "The Library and Rooftop Bar." I can't tell you how appropriate this is for Bookcrossers as Cherie and I clearly couldn't keep up with some of the other BCers around here.

(Dang, it looks like my camera was in the funky mode again.)

It's Morning

Posted by noumena12 at 5:57 AM 0 comments

I seemed to have had a tough night last night. First, I kept getting us lost…not too big a deal but we did walk in circles a couple of times. Of course, no one RUSHED to take the map from me.  I don’t think it had anything to do with the glass of wine I had before we left for dinner, the 2 margaritas that I had with dinner, or the Belvedere martini I had waiting for the cab.

We were out finishing up the scavenger hunt but I didn’t realize that entries were due last night at 10pm! So I’m going to post my scavenger hunt releases here and you guys can tell me if I should have one. (There were 16 releases.)

Answering your questions

Posted by noumena12 at 10:50 AM 0 comments

Lunch was here in the hotel…lowcountry food which was very good!! We also ate the mandarin orange layer of last night’s cake. (Last night we ate the Vanilla layer.)

The live swap is tonight at Sticky Fingers. I’ll try to do some real time blogging. I’m sure Kel will be sending those dang photos she keeps taking!

Thanks for the emails and questions…keep them coming

Lost Books??

Posted by noumena12 at 8:53 AM 0 comments

Cherie and I released a “bunch” of books in the hotel…in the elevator lobby of each floor of the hotel. WE believe some of those books were picked up last night. Unfortunately, we visited many of the floors this morning and ALL the books are missing. I believe that the hotel “confiscated” these and that they weren’t ALL picked up. These were good books! We picked books that we thought might be picked up by non-Bookcrossers and we might be able to “catch” some new Bookcrossers. Many of them were very nice hardback books. Here is the list of my books that were released:

A beautiful accident

So, I brought the little Sony camera. Apparently I don't know how to use it. It was very sunny and I couldn't see the screen to tell how the pictures were turning out. I'm not sure what mode I got the camera in..but I think these turned out beautiful. I'll be making some BC Bookplates from these!

Living with Cherie...What an Experience!! :)

Living with Cherie is an experience! First, you just can not imaging how much "stuff" she has brought with her. My stuff fits in a single quart size ziploc bag! All of the stuff you see on the counter is Cherie's!

Cherie is NOT a morning person! I swear she stood like this for 10 minutes...I thought she might have fallen asleep.

Lowcountry Cooking

Posted by noumena12 at 4:44 PM 0 comments

This afternoon I attended a Lowcountry Cooking class at Charleston Cooks! It was so fun!! I learned some great new (well, new to me) cooking/knife techniques! The cooking demonstration included:

Crispy Chicken with Pan Gravy

Carolina Rice and Vegetable Saute

Blueberry Lime Parfaits

The food was served with a Charleston Cooks private label Chardonnay and Merlot.

Of course, I had to buy a whole bunch of stuff in the store because I got a 10% discount!!! Now I’ve got to ship cooking stuff home along with my books!

I've Arrived in Charleston!!

Posted by noumena12 at 2:31 PM 0 comments

I’ve arrived safely in Charleston only 2 hours late and got a FREE airline ticket of it! When I’m traveling on business I’m usually on a tight time schedule and can’t take the bump!

I’m currently sitting in the bar with a glass of wine and a FABULOUS crab cake and fried green tomato appetizer. I’ll go to dinner later but I haven’t eaten since 7:30am! The bar is fabulous (I’ll probably use that word a lot!) and the staff is wonderful. Since there is internet access here (but not in the hotel room), I expect to spend a lot of time here! While no internet access in the room is annoying it is not the end of the world as I am a social person and don’t mind sitting in a bar! J

Just talked to Cherie and she is in the airport on the way here!! Woo Hoo!

I’ll be doing my first release shortly as well. A book I finished on the airplane:  Romancing Riley

Ready to be shipped

Posted by noumena12 at 11:45 AM 0 comments
My three boxes of books to be shipped to the convention are packaged, labeled, and ready for UPS pick-up tomorrow.

Box 1: 20x10x12 31 lb 16 oz
Box 2: 14x11x9 16 lb 6 oz
Box 3: 18x12x11 22 lb 15 oz (RABCKs)

There are apparently only a total of 41 books in the 3 boxes. *shakes head* Sure seems like there are more!

UPS Ground was definitely the way to go! Shipping all 3 boxes was $49.72.

Shipping via USPS Priority mail would have cost me $78.65

And I even bought a 50 lb scale today from ebay in order to avoid going to the post office! It better arrive by next weekend!

BookCrossing Convention Bookplate

Posted by noumena12 at 7:44 AM 4 comments

One of the things that I like to do is to create custom BookCrossing Bookplates. I like to personalize them or to use images that appeal to me or reflect something about the person I'm creating a label for. So, I've created my own BookCrossing Bookplate...of course, all of the image thanks goes to the 2007 BookCrossing Convention team in Charleston!

If you would like your own 2007 Bookcrossing Convention label, email me at noumena12@noumena.com

4/7/2007: I've corrected the wording problem so if you request a label from this point on it won't say "the world the world." :)
